Adding Fields to Cards and Hints


Fields are the placeholders that store your client and matter specific information used by your templates. You can add hints to your fields to provide more context on the purpose or use of the information, as well as the necessary format of the data.

Common Uses for Hints

  1. Describe Format. For example, in a settlement agreement where the consideration is written in the form "Fifty Thousand Dollars ($50,000)" you could use a hint to help maintain this format - "like: Fifty Thousand Dollars ($50,000)."
  2. Provide Context. For example, in a limited liability company operating agreement you may want to use the hint help provide context with a reference to the provision where the field appears and put a blank space for the field - "If there is more than one Manager serving, all decisions requiring action of the Managers or relating to the business or affairs of the Company shall be decided by the affirmative vote or consent of ____ of the Managers."
  3. Give Instructions. There may be situations where it is helpful to give instructions to whoever will be using the template. For example, "select 'yes' if plaintiff is separated" or "Select 'include' if there is attached list of personal property referenced in the will."

Lend a Helping Hand with a Hint

Often the field names will be self-explanatory and hints are not necessary. But the best practice is to include a hint if you think it could help someone else when going through the Journey and generating documents with the template.
